SOLD – 21 x 64 in. Lathe, Heavy Duty, 30 HP, equipped

$3,500.00 USD

“This massive, heavy-duty lathe was excellent on purchase but was stored under a roofed craneway too close to an opening. Unpainted exterior surfaces got coated in rust. However this was a top quality German lathe – all heavy cast iron and steel, with a big roller steady rest (16″) and a motorized carriage rapid traverse. There is no heavy flaking rust on the ways, but the leadscrew (etc) will need chasing (remove the rust). The headstock interior should be in good shape (we can open it for you) Some lever handles still move and the steady-rest roller bearings spin. This will be a major clean up but you could afterward have an invincible Heavy-Duty engine lathe, with 30 HP main motor, which can take heavy cuts. (It is SO cheap you can buy it just for the bedway). Now in our new warehouse, this 5 tons of German-quality lathe needs a home. Free LOADING – Call now (see below for details) because we really need the space. Make us a reasonably close offer !”

NOTE:
Many years ago, well known Eliott Machinery of England, Montreal affiliate branch, Canada, in the mid ’80s, ran out of brand new European machinery.  They imported  several containers of late model, excellent-condition, second hand well-known machine-tools (mostly lathes, milling machines and gear making equipment) from their German operations. They down-sized; the building was sold; they had an auction; we bought about 10 machines.

However we had a tenant in part of the building who decided he needed more room and without notice he moved several of our machines from a fully enclosed crane area to another roofed crane area which only had a partial side wall on one side. This lathe was at least 40 feet inside under the roof, but it got blowing mist and snow on it in winter. Life got more complicated as Machineco got more heavily into real estate, (as the China juggernaut decimated both our customer base and our competitors everywhere), and this lathe was ignored way too long.

Finally that property was expropriated for a new highway, and we had to move all the iron.  (with no “child” left behind). Even if seriously rusty, this massive piece of German engineering offers someone with persistence and time an opportunity to acquire a heavy duty, well-engineered lathe with great potential.  Super value as a project to restore. Several of the headstock lever handles still move. The steady rest roller bearings still rotate.  This 5± tons of German, quality steel and cast iron is just about the heaviest lathe for its horsepower, we’ve ever seen!  And only 35 cents a pound – far less than raw steel!

Our loss becomes your gain.  (more detail photos on demand).
